Fabrizio Hochschild
Fabrizio Hochschild began his United Nations career in 1988 with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sudan. He served in subsequent postings with UNHCR, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and in peacekeeping. He was posted in Jerusalem, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Timor-Leste, Geneva, New York, Serbia and the United Republic of Tanzania, and undertook missions in Afghanistan, Albania, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti and South Sudan.
Mr. Hochschild was Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General, leading a worldwide consultation process gathering millions of voices on the state of the world and our common future, concluding in a political declaration adopted by the UN General Assembly at the occasion of the United Nations’ 75th anniversary. He also led the United Nations’ work on digital cooperation bringing together governments, civil society, academia, technology companies, and other international and local actors to develop the United Nations Secretary-General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation.
From 2017 to 2019, Mr. Hochschild served in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, where he established and led system-wide coordination and strategic thinking processes. Prior to this, he was Deputy Special Representative for the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Colombia supporting the peace process, Director of the UN Field Personnel Division, and Chief of Field Operations and Technical Cooperation in the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR). He started his career in 1987 as volunteer Forester in Darfur in Sudan and there joined the UNHCR. He has since served in various countries affected by conflict including East Timor, the former Yugoslavia, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
